Chapter 1 - (draft version may contain some typos etc) Page 1 of 6

What's in it for you . . . Why read this blog?

At the age of 23 when I did my first business plan, I can recall thinking: "There has to be a better way. It's too complicated and it's very time consuming."

Fortunately, my business plan worked and I was well rewarded for my efforts. I guess that's what got me hooked on business planning. The planning involved time and effort, but the payoff was very enjoyable ― a successful growing business.

However, every time I did any business planning the same thought kept coming back ― "There has to be a better way."

The breakthrough: In the early 1980's I stumbled onto a completely different approach to planning ― courtesy of the NASA organisation. This completely changed my approach to project and business planning.

So I'm pleased to tell you there is a better way. It's simpler. It's faster. It's better.

My purpose: The purpose of this blog is:
(a) To teach you the essence of this different approach . . . and
(b) To show you the simple steps so you can effectively plan your business or organisation.

Projects too: My prime focus will be business and organisation planning ― both commercial and not-for-profit.

However, it will soon become apparent to you that almost everything I show you will work just as well for planning projects and events.

I've presented this information in several hundred seminar workshops during the past 16 years. The following chapters contain my very latest material. As you read my words, imagine that this is essentially a one-on-one seminar/workshop between you and I.

Email and the comments feature of this blog provide the means to make this a two-way conversation. I encourage you to do this.
